Building a Sanctuary: A Journey of Healing, Family, and Rescue
I’ve spent the past week at our sanctuary property in Arizona, preparing for the next big step in our journey. By the end of February, we’ll be fully moved in, and shortly after that, we’ll be installing our septic system. Originally, this was meant to be a semi-quiet life for just my husband and me, our dogs, chickens, and other rescues we come across; we want to detach and live more sustainably. We hoped to gradually build up the facilities and resources to help others. However, life has a way of changing plans.
We are a blended family. My husband has six daughters, and I have two sons. In 2021-2023, three of his daughters lived with us for about a year and a half, and now, three of them will be rejoining us—bringing two more beloved dogs with them. These girls have overcome incredible hardships, now, they are reclaiming their lives in a place of peace and healing.
While we didn’t anticipate this change in our budget or having new residents so quickly, we are embracing it wholeheartedly. To help sustain our sanctuary and support those finding refuge here, I’ve been working hard to create income sources, and one of these is this website. Every purchase you make directly helps support this mission of healing, safety, and renewal.
Saving Lives, One Paw at a Time
The two new dogs joining our sanctuary were rescued from going to a kill shelter, and now they will have a forever home. This sanctuary isn’t just about people healing from oppression and abuse—it’s also about giving animals a second chance at life. Every purchase from our shop contributes to their care, feeding, and medical needs.
Additionally, I’m an Amazon affiliate, which means I earn commissions on recommended products—many of which I personally use here at the sanctuary. If you’d like to support us in another way, you can browse my Pinterest adventures or check out the tagged video below for more details.
The Essential Need: Water for the Sanctuary
One thing that has become crystal clear since being out here is just how much we consume and how valuable resources like water truly are. Right now, we are hauling in water in large containers, but our ultimate goal is to dig a well. Thankfully, water isn’t too difficult to access in this area, but well installation is still a costly endeavor—we’re estimating about $10,000.
I’ve considered setting up a GoFundMe, but for now, the best way to support our mission is through purchases and donations via our website. Every dollar goes toward building a self-sustaining sanctuary, providing a safe space for survivors, and caring for the animals that have also been impacted by trauma.
